Yellow Birdies Bento
Finally I can post this Yellow Birdies Bento… Bundles of thank to Bunda Key for sending me this cute animal cutters (I’ll try to make more bentos with these tools Bunda :D). I made this bento in a late afternoon resulting a photo with it’s-not-tata’s-favorite-kind-of-light-source :(. Yeah, I used room’s light since it was already quite dark that I couldn’t get bright natural light. I don’t like to use flash and it was quite frustrating that dozens of my photos of this yellow birdies bento were blur T_T. The one that I come across with for today’s post is the best and sharpest from those dozen trials *crying again….*. I only made a simple bento with two yellow birdies made of quail eggs colored with turmeric powder in boiling water. The eyes were made of cheese and nori and nose from blanched carrot. Those green hats (do they look like bird’s hat? ;p) were made of kyuri cucumber’s peel cut with one of those cute animal cutters. To hold the birdies on the bed of rice, I used my pink heart-shaped food picks. Beside the birdies, I had a pretty flower from blanched carrot and cheese cut with fondant plunger, boiled broccoli, shredded yum yum fried tuna, cherry tomato, and buna shimeji.

Cute Animal Cutters
Thanks Bunda Key! :D

Oya, I’m also pleased that finally I can come up with a short review of Kaerenmama’s bento book. Frankly speaking, I actually wanted to buy this book initially was because of the freebies that this book offers :D. I was dying to get the puncher since according to me the puncher would come out with great size and precise nori cutouts – and I’m totally right! :D. Not to mention, the additional gadget freebies are totally handy and very useful for bento making. I also got two pink heart and red ribbon picks and five cute cutters (sakura, heart, star, oval, and round that come in various sizes) – very great, rite? :D.

Kaerenmama Book 1

This bento book brings a lot of Japanese cute popular cartoon characters (HK, Rilakkuma, Chibi Maruko-chan, San-X characters, etc.) that are so familiar with us although we are not Japanese or live in Japan. I can’t read Japanese, but the pictorials given say louder to us :D. We are also informed about the tools we need to make the bentos. Another thing that I like from this book is that it offers quite balanced charaben ideas for girls and boys; for adults, the picnic bento ideas are also great to note in mind and then put the ideas on your own bentos :D. I think the charaben ideas of this book are also great for both bento newbie and “experienced” daily bento maker :D. The ideas are not too easy nor too difficult to copy. On some of the last pages, the readers are pampered with many useful tips in bento making such as how to make cute characters in a very simple way, how to make your own cute food picks, how to arrange good charaben, how to make bento decorations, etc. Really love this book. Aren’t you eager to add this book on your book shelves? ;p

Kaerenmama Book 2

I bought this book from Mummy Raifan, an online bento gadget shop on FB based in Singapore. If I look for certain bento gadgets that are still not available in Indonesia, she would always kindly help me to find them. She sent me this book directly from Singapore. But for my Indonesian friends, if you want to shop on Mummy Raifan with low shipping fee, you don’t need to worry about that. When she or her relatives back to Indonesia, they will bring your orders that later will be shipped in local fee from Jakarta. The only thing that you need is then… to be patient to wait little bit longer ;p. But if you want to hand your orders quickly, she surely can send them to you directly from Singapore :D. Happy shopping!
