Malbi Daging
In 88A Boardinghouse, I’m popular as “the chef”. I got this title since I’m the one who has the highest frequency spending time there, not because I’m a cooking expert nor I’m a kind boardinghousemate that happily cooks for my friends hehe. My boardinghousemates love to help or just to accompany me when I’m cooking in the kitchen or when I’m having my food photography session near our boardinghouse’s balcony – so happy to have volunteering assistants hehe, but of course they’ll enjoy my food too :D. Their favorite question to ask me is “What’s your project today?” – the project here of course means cooking project. If I decide not to cook even for a day, their question will be “What’s your next project?” – it seems that I’m more popular with what I do in the kitchen than with what I do with my study. Oh Mom and Dad, forgive me for being a little bit too far from my right path as a student. I think the time I’ve spent for cooking and studying is not equally balance :’(.

MALBI DAGING – Beef in Malbi Spice

500 gram beef
5 tbsp Indonesian sweet soy sauce/kecap manis
2 tbsp crispy fried shallot
1 tbsp palm sugar/Javanese sugar, carved
50 ml cooking oil
350 ml water

Spices to paste:
5 cloves of garlic
3cm fresh ginger root
1 tsp white pepper seeds
¼ nutmeg
1 eye tamarind
Salt to taste

1. Mix all the ingredients except crispy fried shallot and water while gently squeezing.
2. Bring to boil the water, add the beef ingredients, and stir. Cover the pot, reduce the heat.
3. Cooked until the water lessens, uncover. Stir until all the water is absorbed. Remove from heat.
4. Serve and sprinkle crispy fried shallot over it.



500 gram daging sapi
5 sdm kecap manis
2 sdm bawang merah goreng
1 sdm gula jawa, serut
50 ml minyak goreng
350 ml air

Bumbu Halus:
5 siung bawang putih
3cm jahe
1 sdt biji merica
¼ pala
1 mata asam
Garam secukupnya

Cara Membuat:
1. Campur semua bahan kecuali bawang merah goreng dan air sambil diremas pelan-pelan.
2. Didihkan air, masukkan daging yang telah bercampur dengan bumbu, aduk rata. Tutup panci, kurangi panas api.
3. Masak sampai air berkurang, buka tutup panci. Aduk sampai semua air terserap, angkat.
4. Hidangkan dengan taburan bawang merah goreng.
